There are plenty of words with silent letters. We don't have a theme for that yet - it's a good idea, thank you.
Yes, English pronunciation can be tricky. For example, the names of British towns can make it difficult for visitors to get around: Keswick has a slient 'w', Towcester is pronounced 'toaster' (a kitchen appliance for making toast) and if you go to the south west (Cornwall) you'll find a town called Mousehole, which is pronounced 'mowzle'.
And just to keep you on your toes*, Mousehole is a few miles from the Lizard, which is simply pronounced 'lizard'.
All very confusing!
*an expression which means 'to make sure you're concentrating'

anyway today's phrase is really good because it seems obvious and when you take some time to think that phrase over well you realize that there's a lot to learn and know about English pronunciation.....have you got other words like"cupbooard" in which one letter is not said????
