For English learners whose native language is French, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese, this is absolutely the best online dictionary I have ever seen. The site’s forum is a very useful tool providing language learners with the opportunity to discuss language-related topics in a serious and constructive way.
Crazy. And good.
Do you know Bluegrass music? Bluegrass and Old Time are two kinds of American folk music which have a long history based, in part, on folk music from Ireland and England. This is a superb site to get a taste of this kind of music and to gain insights into a part of American culture. Also, listen to the host, Jack Lewis: his Virginia accent is a wonderful example of how people speak English differently around the world.
This is a great resource for learning English (or any other language, for that matter) and for understanding more about cultures in different English-speaking countries. Listen to music from Ireland. Listen to news bulletins from New Zealand. Listen to the different ways people speak English in India, Canada and the Bahamas. It’s a great way to explore the world.
grammarbook.comThis is really useful for language learners. It provides students with comprehensive grammar and punctuation guidelines.
Instead of staying in a hotel on your trip to London, you stay with an English family. It seems to be a well thought-out service which allows you to stay in London inexpensively and, at the same time, to make contact with local people, making your trip more of an “authentic” English experience.
Woodlands Junior School Guide to British Life Culture and Customs
This site was created by some English school children. It is full of interesting information about Britain and its customs, expressions and much more. It’s really worth a visit.
American English podcasts for advanced learners. Long-ish podcasts, plenty to listen to!
